Job Summary

Assures the accurate tray set up of meal service and the cleanliness and sanitation of flatware, dishware, pots and pans, kitchen equipment, kitchen environment, and the preparation of meal specials in accordance to Federal and State regulations, therapeutic diets, food safety standards, service schedules, and facility policies.

Qualifications

The incumbent will possess:

  • Willingness to work with and understanding of geriatric residents and their needs.
  • The ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
  • The ability to take direction and constructive criticism and work cooperatively with supervisor and fellow employees.
  • The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

Conditions

Works in a well lit and ventilated nursing facility. Will be exposed to hot / cold temperatures in kitchen / storage areas. Exposed to grease and cooking oil, cleaning chemicals, and mechanical equipment. Subject to falls, burns from equipment, etc. Sits, stand and walks constantly throughout the day. Bends, reaches, stretches and carries within normal limits. Will require fine motor skills and visual acuity. Subject to many interruptions by telephone calls or walk in visitors. Will communicate verbally and in writing to various people. Deals with many levels of contact with professionals, residents, family members, staff and the general public. May be exposed to undesirable odors, sights, infections with emotional stress and anxiety in working around sickness and the dying. May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc. May be required to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
