<p><strong>Job Title: </strong>Director of the Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory</p><p><strong>Location:</strong> Tupper Lake, New York</p><p><strong>Organization:</strong> Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory</p><p><strong>Reports To:</strong> Board of Trustees</p><p><strong>Position Overview:</strong> The Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory seeks a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to lead our esteemed organization. This individual will play a pivotal role in advancing our vision to inspire curiosity and provide perspective on our Universe through wonder and enlightenment with immersive educational experiences, exciting adventures in astronomy, cultivation of new perspectives, and to understand, participate in, and belong to our Universe.</p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p><ol><li><strong>Leadership and Strategy:</strong></li></ol><ul><li>Promote awareness of the organizations mission and work</li><li>Develop and implement the strategic vision and direction of the Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory.</li><li>Oversee the development and execution of annual operating plans, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and goals.</li><li>Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration among staff, volunteers, and partners.</li></ul><ol><li><strong>Fundraising and Development:</strong></li></ol><ul><li>Manage a budget and track whether goals are being met</li><li>Lead and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure financial support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies.</li><li>Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and grant-making organizations.</li><li>Oversee grant writing and reporting processes to ensure funding sustainability.</li></ul><ol><li><strong>Program and Event Management:</strong></li></ol><ul><li>Oversee the design and implementation of educational programs, public outreach events, and special initiatives that promote astronomy and science.</li><li>Ensure high-quality visitor experiences through engaging exhibits, presentations, and hands-on activities.</li><li>Collaborate with local schools, universities, and community organizations to expand educational opportunities.</li></ul><ol><li><strong>Operations and Administration:</strong></li></ol><ul><li>Manage the day-to-day operations of the facility, including budgeting, financial management, and human resources.</li><li>Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and safety requirements.</li><li>Supervise staff, volunteers, and contractors, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities.</li></ul><ol><li><strong>Marketing and Communications:</strong></li></ol><p><strong>           Strategize and execute fundraising events</strong></p><ul><li>Develop and implement marketing and communication strategies to increase visibility and engagement with the community.</li><li>Represent the Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory at public events, conferences, and media engagements.</li><li>Maintain an active online presence through social media, website management, and digital outreach.</li></ul><p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p><p><span>●     </span><em>Knowledge </em><span>of astronomy, science education, and environmental conservation.</span></p><p>●     Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.</p><p>●     Experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, and development.</p><p>●     Strong strategic planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.</p><p>●     Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking abilities.</p><p>●     Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build strong partnerships</p><p>●     Grant writing experience preferred</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Compensation:</strong> Competitive salary commensurate with experience and a benefits package.</p><p><strong>Application Process:</strong> Interested candidates are invited to submit a resume, cover letter, and three professional references to sethmcg@adirondackskycenter.org. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.</p>
