<p>Company Description</p><p>Ocean sailing charters in Knysna offers 2-4hour luxury catamaran sailing excursions. Departing from Sirocco Jetty, cruising the Knysna Lagoon, then through the iconic Knysna Heads, into the Indian Ocean for an authentic wind powered sailing experience.</p><p><br></p><p>Role Description</p><p>We are seeking a full-time, onsite, qualified and experienced Commercial Skipper to operate a 40" and 55" catamarans for daily charter operations. The skipper will be responsible for the safe navigation, overall vessel management, passenger experience, and compliance with maritime regulations. This role requires strong seamanship, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety and customer service.</p><ul><li>Safely command and navigate commercial catamarans in coastal and offshore waters</li><li>Conduct pre-departure safety briefings and ensure passenger compliance with safety procedures</li><li>Monitor weather, tides, and sea conditions to ensure safe operations</li><li>Oversee vessel maintenance, cleanliness, and routine inspections</li><li>Manage docking, anchoring, and mooring operations</li><li>Maintain accurate logbooks and operational records</li><li>Ensure compliance with local maritime authority regulations and commercial licensing requirements</li><li>Deliver exceptional customer service and create a positive onboard experience</li><li>Supervise crew and delegate duties effectively</li></ul><p><br></p><p>Qualifications</p><ul><li>Relevant certifications and qualifications for operating commercial vessels over 9 meters</li><li>Strong knowledge of navigation, seamanship, and maritime safety regulations</li><li>Strong Customer Service skills, with a focus on delivering excellent experiences to passengers</li><li>Solid understanding of Maritime regulations</li><li>Radio Operator’s Certificate</li><li>First Aid and firefighting and all other relevant certification</li><li>Proven experience operating catamarans or similar vessels</li><li>Excellent communication and leadership skills</li><li>Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure</li><li>Ability to lead and manage a crew effectively</li><li>Local coastal knowledge</li><li>Mechanical and basic marine engineering skills</li><li>Hospitality or tourism experience highly advantageous</li><li>Willing to work hospitality hours, including weekends and holidays</li><li>Outdoor work in varying weather conditions</li><li>Physically capable of handling lines, sails, and deck operations</li><li><span>Neat, organized and presentable</span></li><li>Proficient admin skills to ensure logs and systems are maintained</li></ul><p><br></p><p>This role is ideal for a professional skipper who is safety-focused, customer-oriented, and passionate about delivering memorable on-water experiences.</p><p><br></p>
