<p><strong>Job Summary</strong></p><p><br></p><p>The <strong>Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA)</strong> Department of <strong>ICANN</strong> is responsible for the operational aspects of coordinating the Internet’s unique identifiers and maintaining the trust of the community by delivering these services in an unbiased, responsible, and effective manner.</p><p>The <strong>IANA Services Specialist</strong> is part of the team responsible for delivering IANA services. Specialists will gain knowledge in multiple areas, applying detailed analysis to incoming requests of varying complexity; validating against global policies and procedures; and exercising independent judgment and discretion while ensuring accuracy and meeting service level requirements. Additional responsibilities include supporting special projects, preparing reports for ICANN and its global partners, and managing internal process documentation.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities & Duties</strong></p><ul><li>Independently process both routine and specialized requests from global stakeholders in one or more IANA functional areas (e.g., managing the DNS root zone, assigning number resources, and making protocol parameter assignments for IETF standards), with minimal supervision.</li><li>Switch between multiple systems, business processes, and tasks, each with unique rule sets and requirements, while maintaining accuracy and meeting service levels.</li><li>Evaluate and validate incoming requests for accuracy and consistency with current policies, involving subject matter experts when necessary.</li><li>Ensure technical information complies with established technical requirements.</li><li>Consult with subject matter experts and collaborate with colleagues to respond to IANA-related inquiries.</li><li>Gather and analyze data to prepare formal reports for staff briefings, ICANN stakeholders, and partners; independently produce reports after training.</li><li>Prepare internal reports related to specific requests.</li><li>Establish and maintain internal documentation on key IANA Services processes and propose improvements as appropriate.</li><li>Be available <strong>24x7 on-call</strong> in rare emergency cases affecting critical infrastructure managed by IANA, ensuring appropriate escalation and resolution.</li><li>Participate in special projects as assigned.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)</strong></p><p><em>(Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.)</em></p><ul><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.</li><li>Broad knowledge of and experience with the <strong>Domain Name System (DNS)</strong> and fundamentals of Internet addressing preferred.</li><li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.</li><li>Service-oriented communication skills.</li><li>High attention to detail and strong organizational skills with the ability to manage diverse tasks simultaneously.</li><li>Self-motivated team player with the ability to work independently.</li><li>Ability to follow documented procedures while exercising independent judgment and discretion in analyzing requests.</li><li>Proactive problem identification, solution proposal, and escalation when appropriate.</li><li>Ability to understand broader implications of complex issues, including impacts on service level agreements, policy requirements, and operational processes.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Education and Experience Requirements</strong></p><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree or equivalent demonstrated skill set required.</li><li>Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a professional environment with a degree; equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.</li><li>Prior international experience and/or work in a multi-stakeholder environment preferred.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Language Requirements</strong></p><ul><li>Fluency in spoken and written English required.</li><li>As a global organization that values diversity, <strong>ICANN</strong> gives preference to candidates with additional language skills.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Working Conditions & Physical Requirements</strong></p><ul><li>Work is performed in a standard office environment with limited privacy and some background noise.</li><li>Regular activities include sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, and using hands and arms to handle or feel.</li><li>Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.</li><li>Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 25 pounds may be required.</li><li>Periodic international travel may be required to attend conferences and events.</li></ul><p><br></p><p>Targeted Base Salary Low:</p><p><strong>55,000 + 10% Bonus + Benefits</strong></p><p><br></p><p>Targeted Base Salary High:</p><p><strong>70,000 + 10% Bonus + Benefits</strong></p><p></p>
