Responsibilities

  • Assist management with the operations of the store by performing clerk duties in the designated department (grocery or freight).
  • Lead by example and assist the department manager in general department operations as directed.
  • Answer customer questions and complaints in a professional manner and assure all customers receive fast, friendly service.
  • Perform the duties of a grocery clerk, cashier and/or freight stocker.
  • Provide customer service by performing the duties of a clerk in the designated department (grocery or freight).
  • Maintain and encourage an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service.
  • Handle customer complaints and requests, approve checks, sell gift certificates, issue refunds, and answer customer questions.
  • Continuously monitor area activities, including customer traffic flow and coverage of checkout lanes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and eye-appeal of work area, storage area, equipment and retail displays.
  • Ensure the department/area of responsibility is kept clear of excess carts, baskets, garbage, etc.
  • Monitor arrivals, breaks, lunches and departures of employees in area of responsibility.
  • Communicate with immediate supervisor regularly.
  • Assist clerks by providing direction and leadership, demonstrating and performing clerk responsibilities.
  • Monitor cashier money handling procedures and assist with scan system procedures.
  • Stock and rotate merchandise in any area of the store as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal, written and inter-personal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, customers and others.
  • Leadership skills and ability to maintain composure when addressing difficult individuals.
  • Understanding of overall company practices and in-depth knowledge of policies/procedures.
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-direction to perform a variety of simultaneous skills.
  • Ability to conduct visual inspections and read reports, computer printouts, register and computer screens.
  • Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide) and compute weights and measures.
  • Ability to perform primary duties efficiently and accurately with honesty and integrity.
  • Ability to work any scheduled work shifts including evenings, graveyard, overnight, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to properly use cleaning chemicals and handle food products per State and County laws.
