The Opportunity We are looking for an experienced and inspiring nursing leader to join our operating department as Matron (Theatre). This is a high-visibility leadership role where your presence, judgement, and compassion will directly influence patient safety, staff confidence, and the quality of theatre services. You will act as a senior clinical leader — supporting teams, shaping standards, and ensuring that care delivery is safe, efficient, and person-centred. This role combines operational leadership with professional influence, allowing you to guide service improvement while remaining closely connected to frontline care. What the Role Involves As Theatre Matron, you will: Provide visible clinical leadership across theatre environments Support and develop nursing and perioperative staff Lead governance, safety, and quality improvement initiatives Manage staffing, resources, and service priorities Collaborate with clinicians and senior leaders to shape service delivery Promote a culture of wellbeing, accountability, and continuous learning Lead change projects that improve patient outcomes You will work in a fast-paced setting that requires resilience, clear communication, and confident decision-making. Professional Requirements You must have: Current RN/RM registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience Teaching/assessing qualification (or equivalent) Evidence of continuing professional development Significant senior nursing leadership experience in complex acute settings Desirable: postgraduate or management qualifications and experience leading patient safety or service improvement programmes. Knowledge & Leadership Profile You will demonstrate: Strong understanding of contemporary healthcare and professional standards Leadership within multidisciplinary clinical environments Excellent communication, reporting, and teaching skills Ability to manage pressure and competing priorities Experience influencing organisational change Commitment to patient safety and workforce development Experience working with regulatory standards and quality frameworks is advantageous.
