ML/AI Data Scientist for AI-Powered NEXRAD Tracking API - Contract to Hire

Other Jobs To Apply

No other job posts for this day.

We are seeking a highly specialized ML/AI Data Scientist to develop and train a machine learning model for our AI-powered duck tracking API. The core of this project is to analyze NEXRAD weather radar data to identify and classify waterfowl roosting signatures. You will be responsible for the entire machine learning lifecycle, from data preparation and model training to evaluation and deployment. This is a unique opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project at the intersection of machine learning, computer vision, and environmental science. You will collaborate with a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer who will be building the data pipeline and API. Your primary focus will be on developing a highly accurate model for roost detection. You will be provided with a comprehensive technical guide that outlines the system architecture and implementation steps. Project Overview The goal is to create a machine learning model that can: 1. Process and prepare radar imagery for training. 2. Accurately detect and classify bird roost signatures from other atmospheric phenomena (weather, insects, etc.). 3. Be deployed in a cloud environment for real-time or batch inference. Key Deliverables • A well-documented and reproducible machine learning pipeline for data preparation and training. • A trained, evaluated, and production-ready Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for roost detection. • Clear documentation of the model architecture, training process, and performance metrics. Responsibilities • Collect, label, and augment a dataset of radar images for training and validation. • Design, build, and train a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) using TensorFlow or PyTorch to classify bird roosts. • Experiment with different model architectures and hyperparameters to optimize performance. • Evaluate the model's accuracy, precision, and recall, and iterate as needed. • Package and deploy the trained model for use in the AWS data pipeline (e.g., as a SageMaker endpoint). • Collaborate with the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to ensure seamless integration of the model into the overall system. Required Experience & Skills • Proven experience as a Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer with a strong portfolio of successfully deployed models. • Expertise in Python and its data science ecosystem (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn). • Deep knowledge of machine learning, particularly with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch. • Hands-on experience building and training Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for image classification tasks. • Familiarity with data processing and analysis of large-scale datasets. • Experience with the full machine learning lifecycle, from data collection to model deployment. • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with AWS SageMaker or other cloud-based machine learning platforms. • Familiarity with radar data or other forms of remote sensing imagery. • Experience with data augmentation and transfer learning techniques. • A background in computer vision or a related field. How to Apply Please submit your proposal with the following: 1. A cover letter detailing your experience with the required skills and technologies. 2. Links to your portfolio or examples of similar machine learning projects you have completed. 3. Your estimated timeline and budget for this project. 4. Please start your application with the phrase "NEXRAD ML Specialist" to show you have read the entire description. We have a detailed technical guide that will be shared with shortlisted candidates. We look forward to seeing your proposals! Apply tot his job

Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? Remote teams can be made up of people working on different shifts and around the world, so you won't necessarily be stuck in the 9-5 schedule if it's not for you...

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

3. WHAT IS "WORKING REMOTE" REALLY FOR YOU?

Many people want to work remotely because of the flexibility it allows. You can work anywhere and at any time of the day...

4. WHAT DO YOU NEED IN YOUR PHYSICAL WORKSPACE TO SUCCEED IN YOUR WORK?

With this question, companies are looking to see what equipment they may need to provide you with and to verify how aware you are of what remote working could mean for you physically and logistically...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

8. HOW TO PRIORITIZE WORK?

The day I watched Marie Forleo's film separating the important from the urgent, my life changed. Not all remote jobs start fast, but most of them are...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?

This is a great question because it shows your comfort level with technology, which is very important for a remote worker because you will be working with technology over time...
