Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Software Architect - Education IT & Innovation. This role focuses on developing system architecture, setting technical direction, and guiding design decisions across cloud-native and AI-enabled platforms. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in full-stack development, systems architecture, and DevOps practices alongside a working understanding of AI/ML technologies such as large language models (LLMs) and Databricks lakehouse environments. Job Responsibilities: * Design and document scalable system architectures across a portfolio of custom-built education platforms. * Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to engineering teams. * Serve as a thought leader in cloud-native and AI-integrated system design, ensuring solutions align with institutional strategy and standards. * Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks, and platforms particularly in the areas of AI/ML, LLMs, agentic systems, and lakehouse architectures (e.g., Databricks). * Define best practices for systems design, development patterns, and DevOps workflows including CI/CD, test automation, and observability. * Contribute to code and solution reviews, ensuring architectural integrity, security, and scalability across the stack. * Collaborate with product owners, data scientists, engineers, infrastructure teams, and cybersecurity partners to ensure cohesive system development. * Participate in enterprise architecture reviews and governance processes; author technical specifications and architecture presentations. * Provide escalation support for complex system issues, including application performance, platform reliability, and integration failures. * Continuously assess architectural risk, technical debt, and improvement opportunities across the portfolio. * Monitor emerging trends in educational technology, cloud infrastructure, and ambient computing and translate innovations into viable prototypes or reference architectures. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. 10+ years of experience building custom software systems, with at least 5 years in a senior technical or architectural role. Expertise in full-stack web technologies (e.g., HTML, JavaScript, CSS, REST, HTTP/2, TLS) and back-end frameworks. 4+ years of hands-on AWS experience, with exposure to infrastructure-as-code and cloud-native architecture; experience with Azure or GCP is a plus. Deep understanding of relational and non-relational data models, indexing strategies, and performance optimization. Proven experience designing and supporting RESTful APIs and microservices architecture. Familiarity with modern AI/ML technologies, including LLMs, agentic systems, and AI model deployment within enterprise systems. Working knowledge of lakehouse data architectures and platforms like Databricks. Strong knowledge of DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks). Proficient in documenting system architecture, design rationale, and tradeoff decisions. Excellent communication skills able to convey complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and influence architectural direction across multiple stakeholder groups. Preferred Qualifications: MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
