Position Details:

  • Title: Tier II Teaching Assistant
  • Level: Middle School
  • Schedule: 6.5 hours per day

Position Overview:

The Teaching Assistant will work under the direction of a certified teacher to support students with diverse needs, including cognitive and physical disabilities, autism, and behavioral challenges. The role involves providing instructional, behavioral, and/or physical support to help students access the curriculum, build independence, and succeed in the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing instructional plans and activities.
  • Provide individualized and small-group support to reinforce learning and skill development.
  • Assist in implementing behavior support plans and using positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation as directed by the teacher.
  • Help maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other staff to support student needs.
  • Supervise students in various settings (classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, bus).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • NYS Teaching Assistant certification (or ability to obtain certification within 40 days of hire).
  • Experience working with children with disabilities and/or behavioral challenges preferred.
  • Ability to remain patient, compassionate, and flexible in a dynamic classroom environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Desire and commitment to work with children of all abilities.
