A top candidate will have… • A CPA, along with 10+ years leading the Finance function in a range of small and mid-sized organizations. • A suite of interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills that enables you to effectively advise and influence CEOs, Executive Directors, and Owners. • Experience in contracting and negotiating with a variety of stakeholders such as customers, suppliers/distribution partners, and investors. • Broad knowledge and experience of accounting, budgeting, tax, audit, human resources/payroll and corporate governance. • The ability to evaluate accounting systems and controls, produce analyses and forecasts, and oversee and mentor junior accounting resources. • Smarts, confidence, humility, and a collaborative nature. • The highest ethical standards. • The ability to express thoughts, ideas, and vision in a clear and compelling manner both written and orally. • A very strong team orientation, embodied by a “nothing is beneath me” attitude. • True entrepreneurial spirit, and passion for fast-paced, growing environments. A typical day as a virtual CFO might include… • Overseeing the work of accounting teams that process financial transactions, run payroll and produce draft financial statements and reports. • Reviewing monthly and annual financial reports for management, board and stakeholders. • Developing support materials such as financial models and budget(s) for CEOs, for annual approval, and fund-raising purposes. • Managing cash effectively, providing rolling cash flow forecast updates - quarterly at a minimum, or more frequently as required. • Supporting the senior management team with business analysis. • Negotiating contracts with various stakeholders - from suppliers to CEOs, managing these relationships, and coordinating any requirement for review by outside counsel. • Managing relationships with audit firms for annual audit and income tax activities, and managing sales tax/employment matters in both Canada and the U.S. • Managing financial, operational, and administrative systems and policies, and recommending changes and improvements as the business grows. • Acting as a Corporate Secretary - liaising with corporate counsel on required board and shareholder resolutions, distributing board and shareholder materials, issuing and tracking stock option grants, and taking minutes at board and shareholder meetings.
